Under the Sun

Come to our first co-sponsored screening this semester of the critically acclaimed documentary Under the Sun (2015). Hosted by the undergraduate student group, THINK at Yale - There’s Hope in North Korea. Under The Sun tenderly tells the story of a year in the life of a family in Pyongyang, North Korea, as the daughter Zin-mi prepares to join the Korean Children’s Union. At the same time, this remarkable film is an documentary about the “making of a government-sanctioned propaganda film in which ordinary North Koreans play fictional roles.” Luckily, the filmmakers had a plan to divert the censors at great risks to the lives and freedom, “in a country where foreigners who act out sometimes spend years in jail.”
