In celebration of the Yale Repertory Theatre’s production of Jiehae Park’s play “peerless,” the Ma-Yi Writers Lab will hold a panel discussion on “Theatre & Culture & Diversity,” hosted by Yale School of Drama’s Asian and American Theater Coalition.
The discussion will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 4 p.m. in The Studio at 217 Park St. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
Park, who is in residence at the Ma-Yi Writers Lab, will be one of the panelists. The other panelists include Ma-Yi Lab’s co-directors Mike Lew ’03 and A. Rey Pamatmat DRA ’03. Playwrights Nandita Shenoy ’94, Susan Stanton DRA ’10, and Hansol Jung ’14 will also participate.
The panelists will discuss professional careers in the theater, representation of people of color in the arts, and the politics of being an Asian-American playwright.
Based in New York, the Ma-Yi Writers Lab is the largest collective of Asian-American playwrights in the country.
“Theater & Culture & Diversity” is being produced by current Yale School of Drama student Jenelle Chu. In addition to Ma-Yi Lab and the School of Drama, the event is cosponsored by the African American Cultural Center.
