Copying Sacred Scriptures: Sagyŏng (Buddhist sutra transcription) and Lecture

This event marks the opening of the new exhibit, “Copying Sacred Scriptures: A Spiritual Practice,” now on view in the Hanke Gallery in Sterling Memorial Library. The event will include an introductory lecture and live Sagyŏng demonstration from Master Dagil Kim Kyeong-ho. A reception will follow at 6:00 p.m.

Master Kim is a poet, calligrapher, and artist who has devoted himself to the continuation of the rare art and technique of Sagyŏng (Buddhist sutra transcription) for the last 30 years.

Searching for Diversity in Kids Books

It can be difficult to explain complex topics to kids. Books are a powerful tool for introducing ideas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to your kids at home or in the classroom. But how to know which books to pick? Join the Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI), the Yale affinity groups, and the WorkLife & Childcare Program for a panel and discussion about introducing diversity into your kids’ books on October 24 from noon-1 p.m.

Vaishnavism as Fine Literature

The focus of the conference is the intersection between the religion of Vaishnavism on the one hand and the conventions of fine literature and aesthetic theory in Sanskrit and South Asian vernaculars on the other. While there has been a growing scholarly production concerning this intersection, mostly focused on the tradition following the Bengali cultural hero Chaitanya, the purpose of the conference is to map the broader contours of the field in terms of the “Religion and Literature” approach.

From January to May 2022, the Yale community will have the opportunity to hear from and discuss with high-level Latin American experts and policymakers about how we can work together towards a more equal and just world.
