This event marks the opening of the new exhibit, “Copying Sacred Scriptures: A Spiritual Practice,” now on view in the Hanke Gallery in Sterling Memorial Library. The event will include an introductory lecture and live Sagyŏng demonstration from Master Dagil Kim Kyeong-ho. A reception will follow at 6:00 p.m.

Master Kim is a poet, calligrapher, and artist who has devoted himself to the continuation of the rare art and technique of Sagyŏng (Buddhist sutra transcription) for the last 30 years.

The Sharing Hope Series is a cross-cultural celebration in collaboration with the Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI), Asian Network Yale (ANY), and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Sharing Hope creates safe spaces for Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities to foster connections and address pertinent issues that affect us. We will touch upon topics such as mental health and family, accessing care from AANHPI professionals, signs and symptoms of mental health conditions, and more!

Yiyun Li received the Windham-Campbell Prize for fiction during the first year of the pandemic. She comes to campus for the first time since receiving the prize to launch her highly-anticipated new novel The Book of Goose and to discuss her work with critic Anthony Domestico.
